Shorter chains make stronger links

There is interest in UV-cured powder coatings as an environmentally friendly, low heat energy coating system for wood substrates. The coatings are applied by either corona or triboelectric spray, so the wood surface needs to be sufficiently conductive to enable good adhesion. The coatings are then heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature or fusion temperature of the powder (depending on the polymer's crystallinity), but below about 120°C to prevent damage to the wood, and then irradiated with UV light.
