Ambitious Welsh waste strategy unveiled: Recycling target of 70% by 2025

On 29 April, the Welsh Assembly Government published its recycling strategy for public consultation over a period of three months. "Towards Zero Waste" is influenced by the revised EU Waste Framework Directive and proposes that at least 70% of all waste from households, the commercial sector and construction is recycled or composted by 2025, in addition to 90% of non-hazardous construction waste by 2020. According to the Welsh Environment Minister, Jane Davidson AM, this is an achievable target and "the most ambitious recycling plan among all the administrations in the UK".
