Ambitious 70% EU recycling target for 2030 expected

A higher target in the EU circular economy policy package would add pressure for the UK to up its current recycling rate. An ambition to increase national recycling rates to 70% by 2030 looks likely to feature in the European Commission's forthcoming package of measures on the circular economy. Commission official William Neale, an adviser to EU environment commissioner Janez Potocnik, outlined the details during the EU's annual Green Week in Brussels on 4 June. The package is still going through an internal consultation process and has yet to be finalised. It is expected to be formally launched later this summer.
