Finance fears over landfill bans

"Big questions" on investment and developing infrastructure need to be answered before any material-specific landfill bans can be introduced, waste management and recycling companies have warned. Earlier this month, environment secretary Hilary Benn mooted the possibility of banning specific materials from landfill to boost recycling rates and increase landfill diversion and, in the new Packaging Strategy published earlier this month, Defra said that it would be commissioning research later this year into the environmental and economic consequences of any landfill bans.
