Significant benefits from the reuse of road materials

Local authorities across the UK face an uphill battle to maintain their roads. The 2009 Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey by the Asphalt Industry Alliance shows that there is nearly a ￡1 billion shortfall in road funding across 'Pothole Britain' and an estimated repairs backlog for England which will take 13 years to clear. Although the Government has brought forward some road maintenance initiatives in 2009, significant spending cuts are expected across the public sector in the next few years and local authority highway maintenance budgets are likely to suffer.
