Inkjet printing methods have been developed for manufacturing colour filters. The printed pixel pattern, formed by jet printing red, green and blue inks onto a glass substrate and UV cured, need to have good heat resistance, mechanical properties and colour properties in order to prevent pixel damage and colour change problems. The high photochemical reactivity and low viscosity of hyperbranched polymers (HBPs) make them useful ingredients in inkjet formulations for colour filters. This paper describes work undertaken to discover the effects of chemical structure on the solubility of HBPs in monomers and the influence of the ink composition on the properties of the microstripes printed.
