Science fiction has often featured diagnostic tools and healing devices that look a bit like TV remotes with-added sound effects and flashing lights. Usually, waving them over injuries with the Doctor mumbling a few technical phrases affects a cure akin to a magician waving his wand. Well, science fiction has a habit of turning into something approaching science fact. The US Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is now developing technology that could treat airmen's battlefield injuries with what is described as "green light".
