Sainsburg's sags its first-half profit climbed 27 per cent on increased organic food sales, and it announced a property venture a week after a Qatar-backed takeover bid for the retailer collapsed. Net income rose to ￡161 m in the six months to October 6, from ￡127m a year earlier. Sales also rose by 2.6 per cent to ￡9.3bn.
