As the first week of the new trading year drew to a close on Friday, European natural gas futures again extended their run of gains as wintry weather looked set to assert itself in the north-west this week, after a remarkably mild autumn and start to winter in 2023. Oil prices, meanwhile, continued their week of oscillation, remaining highly sensitive to any change factors, the latest being an outage at a major field in Libya because of unrest.
