The EuroRunner - an environmentally-friendly locomotive from Simmons

In accordance with the usual practice in Austria, the new class-2016 diesel locomotives are being used universally for both passenger and freight services, and it is also intended that they should be deployed for both line and shunting duties too. Siemens Transportation Systems decided that it wanted to be in a position to put in bids whatever calls for tenders were published in future and so, in creating the class 2016, it established the basis for a whole family of standard-gauge diesel locomotives - the EuroRunner family. In the process, it paid particular attention to complying with the very ambitious objectives set as regards environmental protection.
