Trade patterns for oilseeds and vegetable oils

This article provides an account of trade patterns (exports and imports) for oilseeds and vegetable oils. Figures are taken from the USDA report for April 2013 and refer to 2011/12, the last completed harvestyear. Overall figures in Table 1 show that 25% of oilseeds and 41% of vegetable oils are exported. Exports of oilseeds are dominated by soybean representing 83% of exported seed with the balance being almost entirely rapeseed. Vegetable oil exports are mainly palm oil (62% of total oil exports) with the remainder being mainly soybean, rapeseed, sunflower seed, and the lauric oils (coconut and palmkernel).
