LNG's place in China's supply mix

To meet its gas needs, China is rapidly growing its own production and imports by pipeline and LNG. In 2012, domestic production amounted to 107 Bern or 73% of China's total demand. The government has set an extremely ambitious target of 176 Bern of indigenous production by 2015: 139 Bern or 79% would be provided by conventional gas, while 17% (30 bem) would come from coal-to-gas and coal bed methane (CBM). Shale gas production is expected to ramp up to 6.5 Bern or 4%.
