INTENSIVE CARE FOR THE BRAIN: Oxygen therapy for stroke patients

The administration of gaseous pharmaceuticals is an everyday practice in clinics, ranging from anaesthesia to surgery and intensive-care medicine. But can gases also be helpful in cases of stroke? Dr Roland Veltkamp, a neurologist at the Heidelberg University Clinic - one of the world's leading stroke centres - is doing research to find out whether prompt administration of oxygen does indeed help stroke patients. His work is supported by a grant from the GEMI Fund, which receives funding support from Linde Healthcare every two years.
