Shining in shade

I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I'VE HEARD, "Oh, I cant have a garden; all I have is shade." For those folks, I guess, gardens mean tomatoes or roses or dahlias. And it's true that those sun worshippers won't do well in the shade. But you can have a beautiful, lush, elegant garden with trees overhead. My favorite plants are shade plants, and many of my favorite gardens to visit are shade gardens, cool and quiet refuges in the midst of a hot and busy summer.
