To simulate the rolling process, the rigid-plastic finite element analysis is widely used, because the desirable elasto-plastic analysis has been thought to require much longer computational time and not to be practical. NKK has been trying to apply the DEM (Dynamic Explicit Method) to elasto-plastic flat rolling analyses. The previous report demonstrated the efficiency of the DEM in the two dimensional analysis. In this report, a three dimensional analysis has been carried out by using the DEM. Compared with experimental results, this simulation is quite accurate. A quasi-steady state analysis has been also performed to save computational time.
