Methanex to restart another methanol plant

Methanex plans to restart a second methanol production train at Motunui after signing a 10-year gas-supply deal with energy company Todd Corporation. Methanex closed the plant in 2004 as Maui gas reserves dwindled, but gas prospects in Taranaki have improved since then. International prices for methanol are also strong and set to remain high as China and other Asian countries increase their use of the product. About 90% of Meth-anex's exports from New Zealand go to Asia. Methanex will spend $75 million on restoring the plant.
