The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing methanol from a digestate and a biogas of a fermentation plant with the following steps: First, a first biogas comprising methane and a digestate is produced in a fermentation plant. The digestate includes organic components. The digestate is then passed into a bioelectrochemical cell having an anode and a cathode. The organic components of the digestate are oxidized at the anode and at the same time oxygen is reduced to form hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous solution at the cathode. The first biogas and the hydrogen peroxide are fed to a methanol synthesis device. The methane of the first biogas and the hydrogen peroxide are reacted to methanol in the methanol synthesis apparatus in the presence of a catalyst.
