We study an electron acceleration mechanism by a focused intense pulse TEM(1, 0) + TEM(0, 1)-mode laser in vacuum. The TEM(1, 0) + TEM(0, 1)-mode laser has two intensity peaks in the transverse direction, and electrons are confined by the transverse ponderomotive force near the central axis. In addition, if the laser intensity is high enough or the velocity of the electron injected is nearly c, the electrons are accelerated strongly by a longitudinal electric field near the central axis. Here, c is the speed of light in vacuum. In this paper, we also estimate the maximum energy of the electron accelerated by the TEM(1, 0) + TEM(0, 1)-mode laser. The results of the estimation coincide well with the simulation results.
