In the United States, officials responsible for energypolicy have been exhibiting renewed interest inwind energy as an alternate power source that isclean and renewable. Despite the new publicenthusiasm for this option, wind turbineinstallations and wind farms must comply with U.S.Federal Environmental Protection Agency andOccupational Health and Safety guidelines and beapproved by state and city regulators. Several recentnews stories have indicated that turbine noise levelshave become a factor in deciding whether toapprove these installations—in part because theyaffect quality of life for nearby residents.
