Mobile phone microscope spots parasite movement

Researchers have developed a mobile phone based microscope that can automatically detect infection in blood. Engineers at the University of California (UC) in Berkeley paired a smartphone with a 3D-printed plastic base to create a microscope that they call video CellScope. The device uses video to detect and quantify infection by parasitic worms in blood.
