A decade at the forefront of clinical neurology.

In May, 2002, a new clinical neurology journal was launched as part of The Lancet family. The remit of The Lancet Neurology then, as it is today, was to provide authoritative articles, including topical reviews and lively discussion, and to become a nexus for practicing neurologists.In the inaugural editorial, we speculated on how much the field would change over the coming 10 years and posited that, with the advent of new technological developments in diagnosis and treatment, particularly in genetics and imaging, "it seems likely that neurologists will be able to predict, with some degree of accuracy, which individuals are at greatest risk of developing certain conditions long before the onset of symptoms". In light of what has been achieved in the intervening 10 years, it would seem that this forecast was prescient.
