When working as a midwife in Nigeria I encountered many women who had miscarried, so I was interested to read staff nurse Rachel Evans's article, 'Emotional care for women who experience miscarriage' (art&science June 20).I agree with Ms Evans that miscarrying at any stage of pregnancy is as traumatic and painful as stillbirth. Yet many women complain that their emotional needs are disregarded during and after miscarriage, and the trauma of this lack of care can linger.Nurses with a history of miscarriage, or who have not had children, should not be assigned to these patients.
