摘要

The working conditions of up to 280 nurses in care homes and hospitals for people with learning disabilities have been criticised by a health watchdog. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found shifts at homes owned by Castlebeck lasted at least 12 hours and nurses rarely received clinical supervision in line with regulatory standards. The CQC investigated Castlebeck after a BBC documentary in May appeared to show patient abuse at Winterbourne View, a Castlebeck care home in Bristol. The CQC was critical of seven of Castlebeck's 23 homes and hospitals in England and had serious concerns about four. Examples of poor practice reported included locking patients in bedrooms without explanation.
