'Nursinh charity gave me a lifeline

A national nursing charity is launching an awareness campaign aimed at highlighting domestic violence and abuse against nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants. The Abuse at Home campaign, which will run for three months initially, has been instigated by the Cavell Nurses' Trust to raise awareness of the plight of nurses such as Susan Hallam, who had to flee to a women's refuge to escape her abusive husband.The charity is known for supporting members of the nursing profession, including students and retired nurses, in times of crisis and financial need. The new focus on domestic abuse is a response to a rise in the number of cases reported to the charity's welfare team (see panel).
