The high spin levels of Ce-136 have been established up to a spin of 23h through the heavy ion fusion evaporation reaction Sn-124(O-16,4n)Ce-136. The level scheme has been constructed by using gamma-gamma coincidence techniques, angular correlation, and polarization asymmetry measurements. The level scheme of Ce-136 exhibits many interesting features like several Delta I = I bands and a highly deformed band. The B(M1)/B(E2) ratios, B(M1) and B(E2) values have been obtained for several transitions in these bands from branching ratios and lifetimes measured by using the Doppler shift attenuation method. The observations have been compared with the results of tilted axis and principal axis cranking calculations. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V All rights reserved.
