Niigata prefecture, which hosts Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco)s Kashiwazaki-Kariwa (KK) nuclear power station, on Sunday elected anti-nuclear Ryuichi Yoneyama as the new governor. This is seen as a major upset for the Abe administrations drive to bring the countrys nuclear fleet back on line and Tepcos plans to restart the worlds largest nuclear plant, which is facing fresh delays in its efforts to secure a positive safety review due to unresolved seismic issues (p3).
