Summer’s slowdown in the uranium market continued yet again this week, with no tenders or transactions announced, according to market sources. As a result, the spot uranium price, as calculated by NIW’s Uranium Price Panel, remains stuck in the doldrums, finishing this week at $36.14 per pound U3O8, down 2￠ from last week’s price (NIW Jul.17’15). Speaking to NIW this week, one producer was simply perplexed at the spot price’s current inability to move strongly up or down, adding that there is very little supply or demand in the uranium market now. The perception that the market is oversupplied, said the producer, overlooks the fact that sellers aren’t out there breaking down doors to sell. “If the market was so oversupplied, one would think that sellers would be entering at reduced sales prices...but that hasn’t been the case,” he said. Enrichment and conversion markets remain even more subdued, according to one trader, with no known transactions occurring this week as well.
