Alternative teaching strategies that facilitate student engagement have yielded positive feedback from students. The teaching strategy encompassed the cognitive and psychomotor domains and was collaborative. Students participated by sharing what they recalled and assisted others' learning. They made mental notes for memorization, while being creative in the process. Finally, this strategy has the potential to improve recall, as use of humor and unusual ideas improves long-term recall.8 As students suggested, this activity is being implemented in the initial pharmacology course in the sophomore year as well as the senior elective course. We will be experimenting with hanging the Medication Mansion projects in the classroom, with students completing several medications each week, progressing throughout the semester, rather than it all being done in 1 course meeting. In addition to the paper exercise, a dollhousemodel is being considered to be placed in the nursing laboratory as a visual review tool, as well the final paper floor plans. A computerized version is also under development. Finally, others are encouraged to experiment with this approach using other content areas.
