Peter Drucker wrote more than 30 books on management and was a highly respected consultant and university professor. One of his most memorable quotes was: "Rank does not confer privilege or give power. It imposes responsibility." Owners, managers andsupervisors should be aware of this when dealing with employees. We can't do without good workers to carry out the day-to-day tasks required to produce quality plants. Every level of management, starting with the owner, is responsible for properly training people who work directly below them. Obtaining good workers starts with attracting good applicants. To do this, you must have a schedule of pay and benefits that will attract people to apply. This is based on the work of Abraham Maslow, who developedthe Hierarchy of Needs motivational model. Under his five-step pyramid of needs, people are motivated first by jobs that meet their basic physiological needs. Until these needs are met, people will not be motivated by higher needs.
