Effects on plant growth of washed seed potatoes.

The washing of seed potatoes, followed by disinfection and seed treatment are described. This costs about 30 EURO/t. Studies were carried out during 2002-04 in Germany with cultivars Laura and Cilena to investigate the effects on crop yield and quality. Different washing machines were used, followed by treatment with the disinfectant Agriclean (modified NaCl) and Monceren + Diabolo (pencycuron + imazilil). Problems with Colletotrichum and scab in stored potatoes increased, while no major effects were found on yield and quality..
