Developing an Evidence-Based Practice Fellowship Program

Creating a culture of inquiry and nursing excellence requires support from nursing leadership, access to resources, and engaged staff nurses. Patient care that is based on ritual and routine is rapidly being replaced by evidence-based practice. Yet, nurses report hectic work schedules that leave little time to search for evidence. Other obstacles reported in the literature include, a lack of knowledge and/or skills in research methodologies, and limited access to resources. An evidence-based practice (EBP) nurse fellowship program can enhance professional development through education and mentorship while establishing a foundation for evidence-based practice.
