Businesses in the wood processing industry are losing thousands, and in some cases hundreds of thousands, of dollars each year through inefficient energy management, warns energy auditor Rob Bishop, technical director of Energy Solutions. The need for wood processors to understand and better manage their energy consumption in order to improve declining profit margins has never been greater. Energy usage within the wood processing sector has been growing rapidly, and with more forests coming on stream over the next decade this trend seems likely to continue. "Energy management is an issue right across the wood processing industry and people who think they are already operating efficiently are usually the ones operating least efficiently," Bishop says. "Complacency is a deadly sin."
