FAA Funding Extended: AIP Noise Grants Awarded

With the FAA reauthorization package stalled in the Senate, President Bush signed a bill in June granting an extension to the funding and expenditure authority of the Airport and Airway Trust Fund. The three-month reprieve frees up more than $750 million in AIP grant money for noise mitigation and other projects. AIP grants approved through June 17 include the following airports: 1) Alexandria International, Alexandria, Louisiana: $8 million for noise mitigation for residences within DNL 70-74. 2) Austin-Bergstrom International, Austin, Texas: $4 million to acquire land for noise compatibility within DNL 65-69. 3) Baton Rouge Metropolitan, Baton Rouge, Louisiana: $2,850,000 for noise mitigation for residences within DNL 70-74.
