Saudi Arabia's Hadeed will build HYL III plant

The Saudi Iron and Steel Co. (Hadeed) will build an HYL Ill-process direct-reduced-iron (DRI) plant in Al-Jubail on the coast of the Persian Gulf. The plant will have an annual capacity of 1.1 million metric tons and begin production in the second half of 1998. Davy International is supplying engineering and construction. The new DRI plant will supply feedstock for a new flat-products mill Hadeed plans to build at its existing complex in Al-Jubail. The company currently operates three other DRI modules that supply its existing steel plants at that site. The new sheet mill is expected to begin operations in early 1999.
