Smoked fish boat: A pollock trawler gets overhauled following a fire at sea

In mid-January, the 135-foot trawler Westward 1 pulled away from the docks at Duwamish Shipyard in Seattle and started steaming to the Aleutian chain and Dutch Harbor. From there, she and her crew would push out into the Bering Sea for another seasonof chasing pollock. With all-new wheelhouse electronics, a rebuilt main engine and generators, and new interior insulation and paneling, the boat that left the dock was hardly the same as the one that tied up there in October.
