摘要

UK scientists from Durham University's International Boundaries Research Unit have drawn up the first detailed map outlining areas of the Arctic that have already been delimited or could be claimed in the future by the bordering coastal states,Norway,Russia,Denmark,Iceland,Canada and the US.The map could ultimately help policymakers define their boundaries and determine whether to lay claim to polar territories believed to be rich in oil and gas reserves.Under the UN Law of the Sea Treaty countries can claim a 200 nautical mile exclusive zone, plus any undisputed area it can prove is connected to its own continental shelf,up to 350 nautical miles.
