Canada's Talisman Energy Eyeing Onshore LNG in Papua New Guinea

Talisman Energy is considering building an onshore liquefaction project in Papua New Guinea (PNG), according to the PNG government. If built, it would become the country's third LNG project. The Canadian explorer is hoping to push an onshore LNG project - or what is preliminarily referred to as its Aggregate Gas Project - past the concept stage by gathering enough onshore gas reserves to justify building a pipeline and a proposed liquefaction plant on Daru Island, in the Western Province of PNG, according to Department of Petroleum and Energy Secretary Rendle Eimua. The Western Province borders the Indonesian province of Papua. It will require 2 trillion to 4 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves to support initial plans for a 2 million to 3 million ton per year LNG project.
