The rush to modernize drilling fleets continued last week as Seadrill and Diamond Offshore Drilling inked $1.8 billion in orders for ultra-deepwater drilling units in the form of one drillship and two semi-submersibles. Seadrill put in a $1.2 billion order for two ultra-deepwater semi-submersibles from Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. The first, the Seadragon I, is expected to delivered in the first quarter of 2011 while the second, the Seadragon II, is on schedule for fourth-quarter delivery.
