Main Pass Offshore LNG Export Project Seeks Separate DOE Queue

Freeport-McMoRan Energy (FME), developer of the Main Pass Energy Hub, wants the prospective LNG export project in a "separate and simultaneous" queue from the one that the US Department of Energy (DOE) is using to consider export applications to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the US. FME is seeking long-term, multi-contract authorization to export up to 24 million tons of LNG per year (about 3.4 billion cubic feet per day) for 30 years from its proposed offshore terminal located about 17 miles east of the mouth of the Mississippi River. So far, India's Petronet LNG and a Pakistani company have each signed preliminary offtake agreements for 4 million tons/yr (0.55 Bcf/d) over 20 years via the project.
