Mackenzie Pipeline Gets Final NEB OK

Canada's National Energy Board late last week gave the Mackenzie Gas Project the final authorization it needs to move forward with the 700-mile pipeline that would bring Mackenzie River Delta production in the Northwest Territories to the existing pipeline grid in Alberta. The four companies backing the project, Imperial Oil, Exxon Mobil Canada, Shell Canada and ConocoPhillips, must still negotiate fiscal terms with the Canadian federal government. Ottawa has insisted that no government assistance will be provided, but that may change in view of Russia's aggressive moves to stake claims to vast segments of the Arctic Ocean and its natural resources.
