Hunger Strike Targets Ferc Permitting

Protestors from the group Beyond Extreme Energy began a 18-day hunger strike outside the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) last week, in an effort to draw attention to what they view as an infrastructure permitting process that fails to adequately take into account the environmental costs of the gas industry. Ferc is charged with regulating and permitting a number of energy installations, including natural gas pipelines and compressor stations, as well as LNG export terminals. The commission also regulates wholesale electricity markets.
