CENTENARY OF ALEKSANDR PAVLOVICH GULYAEV

In 2008 we celebrated the centenary of A. P. Gulyaev ten years after his death. A Doctor of Engineering, a Professor, an Honored Scientist and Engineer, he was a prominent metal scientist and the editor-in-chief of our journal from 1960 to 1998. A man is alive until he is remembered. We de?vote the present issue to the two significant dates and publish papers of Gulyaev's disciples and colleagues. In No. 11 of MSAT published ten years ago and devoted to the 90th anni?versary of A. P. Gulyaev we acquainted the readers with a detailed biography of the scientist and presented his three pa?pers on key topics of the science of metals and recollections of his coworkers. Today we present some works that reflect aspects of the scientific heritage of A. P. Gulayev not de?scribed exhaustively in No. 11 of 1998. To put it plainly, we publish topics left outside the scope of that single journal. This again shows how wide the field of Gulyaev's scientific interest has been.
