Moscow Mulls Rosneft Share Sell-Off

Russia may sell part of its stake in the country's largest oil producer as the global economic crisis forces the gov-ernment to look at new ways of plug-ging its budget deficit. Russia envisages a deficit of 2.9 trillion rubles ($97 billion) next year. This could be offset by selling state assets. There are some 5,500 firms in Russia that could potentially be pri-vatized, including Rosneft and state shipping giant Sovcomflot, according to First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.
