Environmental groups have welcomed the halt of the Gazprom-led giant Shtokman development in the Barents Sea and have intensified efforts to stop any work in the Arctic. In a letter to President Vladimir Putin, Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Shtokman “has now hit what seems to be a final obstacle and is in the process of dissolution, testifying its economic unfeasibility.”
