An investigation was carried out at Puradagadde and Mittiganahally villages of Chickballapur district, Karnataka, on potato and cabbage, respectively to study the effect of graded levels of potassium with sulphur and /or magnesium on yield and uptakeof nutrients by the crops and nutrient status of post harvest soil samples. Potassium was applied at three levels i.e. 62.50,125 , and 187.5 kg K,0 ha~(-1) using muriate of potash (potassium chloride) and patent kali (a double salt of potassium sulphateand magnesium sulphate containing 30 per cent K_2O, 10 per cent MgO and 17 per cent S). Muriate of potash was used alone as well as in combination with bentonite (a source of sulphur) and magnesium chloride. The amounts of sulphur that was added to the soil along with the three potassium levels were 35.4, 70.8 and 106.2 kg ha~(-1) S, respectively and the amounts of magnesium that was added to the soil were 12.50, 25.00 and 37.50 kg ha~(-1) of Mg, respectively. Nitrogen and phosphorus were applied at recommended dosage to both the crops. The results revealed that the grain yield of both the crops was increased with increase in the levels of potassium application. Use of patent kali proved better than the application of MOP at all the three levels of potassium tried. Patent kali proved better than MOP even when the latter was applied along with same quantities of magnesium and sulphur through other sources. Available nutrient status of the soil after harvest of the crops was mainly related to the quantities of specific fertilizer applied to the soil, yield of crops and quantities of nutrients taken up by the crops.
