The present study was undertaken among 20 seed production areas of teak in four seed zones of Karnataka, South India to understand the pattern of vegetative phenology and its influence on fruit yield. Vegetative reproductive phenophases like time of leaf shedding, duration of leaflessness, time of leafing and leaf expansion duration showed significant variation among SPAs as well as between four seed zones. SPAs of Yellapur and Dandeli seed zones (Northern region) started early in leaf shedding initiation by around 20-30 days as compared to SPAs of Shimoga and Madikeri seed zones (Southern region). Leaflessness period was found to be longer (about IV2 month) duration among SPAs of Dandeli and Yellapur and it was very short (only about 15 days) amongSPAs of Madikeri. In contrast to leaf shedding, SPAs from Shimoga and Madikeri zones started leaf flushing earlier (about 20-35 days in March) than those of SPAs of Yellapur and Dandeli (during April). All these vegetative phenophases showed strong association with time of initiation of budding, flowering and peak flowering. However, time of leaf flushing showed negative influence on fruit yield indicating early flushing individuals produce higher fruit yield than late flushing.
