Attitude of Tribal Coffee Growers Towards Market Management in Coffee and Institutional Support in Vishakapatnum district of Andhra Pradesh

The tribal area is characterized by small land holdings, weak infrastructure, poor linkages between formal and informal sectors and low levels of social and political articulations. Limited technical support and unfavourable pricing systems are few problems encountered in hill and tribal agriculture. Integrated Tribal Development Agency as a nodal agency is responsible for the overall progress of the tribal groups and Coffee Board provides technical support to the tribals. The study is confined to Paderu division of Vishakapatnum district of Andhra Pradesh. The data was collected from a final sample of 200 using structured interview schedule. The results reveal that majority of tribal farmers sell dry cherry coffee without processing' to overcome financial crisis and it was agreed by 59 per cent while 58 per cent have reported that liberalization has not helped tribal coffee growers to get better price for coffee. 83 per cent of the tribal coffee growers have agreed that Coffee Board and ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Agency) extend technical help to promote coffee cultivation whereas 55 per cent had agreed, coffee cultivation helps to improve literacy, interaction with other tribals and contact with extension agent'.
