A field experiment was conducted to know the performance of promising genotypes of blackgram under different sowing dates in Zone-7 at Agricultural Research Station, Kathalagere during 1999-2000 The genotype LBG-625 recorded a highest seed yield (997kg / ha) followed by IPU - 982 (897 kg / ha) The higher seed yield was mainly due to higher total number pods per plant (29 52 and 23 42 respectively) over seasons Between the date of sowing, early sowing recorded significantly hihger seed yield (1006 and 951 kg / ha) compared to late sowing (733 and 720 kg /ha during 1999 and 2000 respectively).
