Stones: Coenzyme Q10 protects kidney during ESWL

New data from a randomized controlled trial suggest that taking coenzyme Q_(10) before and after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) can protect the kidney from injury resulting from the procedure. ESWL is a common treatment for small kidney stones that has, unsurprisingly, been associated with parenchymal damage. Coenzyme Q_(10) represents a potential low-cost solution to this problem.
