Characteristics influencing agricultural modernization and cultural changes among Lambani farmers in Upper Krishna Command Area, Karnataka

The study was conducted in Upper Krishna Command Area of Karnataka during 1998-99 to know the characteristics influencing agricultural modernization and cultural changes among Lambani farmers. Data was collected from 210 Lambani farmers with the help of a pre-tested interview schedule. It was found that 15 characteristics viz., education, land holding, income, achievement motivation, deferred gratification, cosmopoliteness, innovativeness, risk orientation, scientific orientation, market orientation, level of living, participation in training programmes, extension participation, extension agency contact and mass media use were positive and significantly related to overall agricultural modernization level. Out of 15 characteristics, only four characters viz., cosmopoliteness, scientific orientation, participation in training programmes and mass media use were significantly contributed at 5 per cent level and these 15 characteristics put together contributed to the extent of 91 per cent of variation in the overall agricultural modernization among Lambani farmers.
